What I’m excited about:
Shopopop. An app that allows me to order my shopping from a distance and not have to set foot in a store. It’s easy, simplifies my life, and saves me time and energy. I also don’t have the added surprise of buying things I don’t want/need because I’m caught up in the moment in the store.
Audible. An app that reads out books in audio form. It’s super helpful, as I can listen to books up to 3.5X speed. Now, I prefer to read books, as there is a totally different process: it helps me work my attention span and focus. But… as Audible is in audio form, I don’t have to focus my eyes, or concentrate my mind on the text as hard and this is great for when I reach a limit in my concentration or for when I’m working out, meditating or resting. For example: at the time of writing this newsletter I have a mind-numbing headache, after hitting the publish button, I’ll lie down and do some breathing on the yoga mat while listening to an audio book: Perfect!
No Nut November. I consistently practice energetic retention, as mentioned in most of my articles. Though, NNN gives me further validation and empowers me to strive for my vision. It’s like having a silent community behind you encouraging you on. I’ll share tips in my next article on ‘Desire”
Movember. (Link) Movember is a men’s movement, to fight against suicide, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research, and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
Quotes I’ve liked:
“The top performers all had one thing in common: No matter how bad things get, they never worry.” - Leila Hormozi
“If you want to be rewarded, you have to be irreplaceable.” - Naval
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” - Viktor Frankl
“The lower the barrier to entry, the higher you need to jump”.
“Concepts are infinitely more important than syntax. You can always google syntax. Seek to understand concepts first.” (On coding)
This week’s curiosities, interests, and thoughts:
Thoughts:
There are no shortcuts. Pain and discomfort provide the contrast needed to appreciate and love what you already have of a life. Hard effort and work pays off, not necessarily in riches but in self-respect. Money is a fool’s prize, but a process we enjoy is the key to true wealth.
A man whose heart is open is a lion-hearted man. And a man whose balls are full also has a full heart. It’s about the chakras being empowered.
The world is an interconnected web full of interconnected webs. A vast world (macro) holding multiple symbiotic worlds (micro).
To become more masculine focus on logic, maths, problem-solving, planning, long term goals.
The more you have of something, the more options you’ll have for it.
Make decisions in advance. Make every decision you can think of in advance.
Decide upon what you want for your health, your wealth, your ambition, your goals, and how you rest. Decide what you eat, read, consume, spend… in advance to suit the outcomes you want. Then build a list of go-to decisions that define what you will do in each situation. It takes a little while initially, but overall gives you great automation over time.Make a list of old habits that you no longer want to enact and a list of new habits to replace them. Refine the lists until happy.
Make a list of all of your desires (things you want, what you want to achieve,…), then define what do you need and what is essential? What is hype? What is nice to have? Then get rid of the hype and nice to have.
Define your diet, and the foods you eat in advance, so that when the time comes you know what to do.
Rather than seek someone or something to “Make your life better” which is external. Strive to Appreciate and embellish your now, be grateful, slow down, and embrace what is here and now. Appreciation is internal. Empower yourself by accepting and valuing what you have and ‘Feel’ good about what you have and what you are. Build from there.
Questions:
How can I strengthen my body, not wear it out?
Short vision / long vision: Where do I see myself in 5-10 years (in health, wealth, well-being, assets, skills, relationships..)? Are my short-term actions going to compound into that vision?
How can I build momentum and stay in a bubble long enough to shift from state A, to state B?
Is fear dictating my choices? If so, what am I fearful about and why? Is it unconscious? Is it based on anything real?
What is the feeling of Desire? Is it irritation? Is it FOMO? Is it Discomfort? .. Pinpoint what feeling is driving/hiding in the desire and then deconstruct it.
Most likely it is FEAR or Discomfort (which is physical fear that the pain won’t stop).Seek not the results of a process but the transformation you go through while doing it. The finite end result is a 5 second pat on the back, the transformation is who you become while you’re striving for the “paradise vision” you have in mind.
Concepts I liked this week:
Decision fatigue / Ego depletion. How depleting your decision/mental resources leads you to be vulnerable to spontaneous desires and splurging on things you don’t necessarily need. Simply because you’re depleted.
Infinite Monkey Theorem. The theorem can be generalized to state that any sequence of events which has a non-zero probability of happening will certainly eventually occur, given enough time.
You can also give me your feedback on Twitter @check_goldberg. What did you like most about this weeks findings? What would you like more or less of in this newsletter? Any other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @check_goldberg and put #saturdaysevens at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend!
