Saturday Seven's
A compilation of my findings, interests and actions from the past week that might be of interest to you. It allows me to forge an interesting routine and be accountable to you!
Hello you!
Here you will find my findings from this past week, things I’m thinking about, and discovering. If you enjoy it, please feel free to forward this along to friends (they might enjoy it too!).
What I’m currently reading:
Still reading:
“HTML & CSS” - Jon Duckett
I’m currently studying the CSS section ‘Selectors’ which proves to be like a tricky puzzle (when one has little focus at the end of the day ^.^).
What I’ve listened to (and liked):
Music:
“Fir” - Kidso
“Empires of The North” - Koelle
“Can’t get enough” - JOPLYN
“Never mind me” - Effemar
“So what” - P!nk
Quotes I’ve liked:
“The secret of a better life is to mind your own business and focus on your goals.” - Orange Book.
“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.” - Romans 12:19
“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger - something better, pushing right back.” - Camus
This week’s curiosities, interests and thoughts:
Spontaneous unpredictability is the way of the poor to be free.
Poor people have less patience, they have less money, therefore less time. A rich person has a large horizon, therefore has less to worry about and will be less irascible. - Lack of patience = lack of certainty about the future = the future could be a threat = death or having to survive in a near future. People who get angry at the checkout believe that ‘the next 10 minutes"‘ will somehow affect their long-term wellbeing.
Great thoughts = expensive thoughts = long compounding of sane and reliable information.
Those who expect to have everything right now get angry and impatient in the case that they don’t get it right now because then fear kicks in, the possibility that “it might not come”. Therefore anger = asserting a degree of control over an unpredictable circumstance.
A lot of people confuse their well-being for the activity itself. Therefore, if they lack energy, if they’re tired or lack energy ‘it must be the activity’. Rather than look at ill nutrition, health, and circumstances.
In order to write, one must read. In order to read, one must have available mental resources and time. None of which are available to someone who spends 10 or so hours a day working/studying and then supporting a family. One must have free time to ponder, question, and imbibe books. If one wants to transform their mind, they must have time aside, outside of an 8-hour day to ponder what works and doesn’t work.
You can also give me your feedback on Twitter @check_goldberg. What did you like most about this week’s findings? What would you like more or less of in this newsletter? Any other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @check_goldberg and put #saturdaysevens at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Much love to you and yours,
Cherokee
